Comment that I received at the doctor's office the other day.... (and other comments)

So I was at the doctor the other day when I was sick. The nurse was weighing me and I said, 'A lot less than last time, huh?' thinking that she'd suddenly be shocked that I weighed 70 pounds less than the last time I had been in. She said, 'We're all watching you on the news and following your progress!'
My doctor came in and said the same thing. Who knew?
At the grocery store lately I've had a lot of people coming up to me telling me they're watching me on the news and how great I'm doing, etc.
It's really nice when I hear those things. I can't imagine what my oldest brother is gonna say when he gets back from Iraq next month and sees me!

Weigh-in last night....

So I weighed-in last night.
I only lost one pound.
I'm now down 71 pounds.
Still in the right direction, just not as much as I'd wanted to lose.

Worked out today despite being sick....

I started feeling sick yesterday. I was watching TV last evening and kept dozing off, which for me means I'm getting sick. I was coughing as well and got a bloody nose right before I went to bed. I woke up this morning with a sore throat.
I decided to go to the gym anyway. I didn't really alter my workout any. I did the usual 30 minutes on the cross-trainer and did about another 30 on the weights as well as ab exercises.
I went to the doctor this morning and he did a nasal swab (I HATED that more than a strep throat swab) to check for the flu. I'm supposed to only hear back if I have the flu.
I'm just achey today. Achey and coughy. :( Someone bring me some chicken noodle soup. I came to work as well, despite being sicky. I'll probably skip my 'extra' workout tomorrow so I can sleep in a couple extra hours to rest.

Venturing out from my daily menu a bit....

So I finally decided to buy some chicken breasts the other night. Normally I eat salmon every night. I'm not sick of it by any means, but behaviorally, it's a bit obsessive.
I bought some tomato sauce with low sodium and poured a bit on it and wrapped it in foil and baked it in the oven. Came out pretty good.
It made me really full! It was only 110 calories for a 4 ounce breast. My salmon is supposed to be like 6 ounces, but I only have maybe a 3 ounce piece because that's how it's portioned in the bag. I'm always satisfied when I'm done eating the salmon, but like I said, I was FULL from the chicken.
I also bought some lentils the other day as they're one of those super foods. I just brought them to a boil and simmered them for 30 mins like rice and they came out tasting REALLY good.

Last night's weigh-in results....

So I weighed-in last night. Remember that the numbers from last night are for two weeks of loss.
I lost 7 pounds in those two weeks!
I'm down to 246 pounds!
I've now lost 70 pounds since I started in late September!
46 pounds to go to get to my goal! I'm sure I'll re-adjust my goal by then!\

How awesome is that? Has it been easy? Well, yes and no.
It's been easy now that I've made it a part of my daily life. It is a lot of hard work and sweat. If I can do it, anybody can.
Take that to heart and do something to improve YOUR health!!!

Weighing-in tonight....

So I didn't get to weigh in last Thursday due to my show opening for preview night. We have no show tonight, so I'll be weighing-in. Tonight's numbers will be 2 weeks worth.
I hope that tonight's numbers bring me to 250 or below! I haven't been that weight since college!

Some things I've given up or just haven't had in a long time....

So there are some things that I've 'given up' since I've started eating healthier. Actually, I just haven't had them in a long time as I don't really believe in giving things up.

Things I haven't had in a long, long time:

Pop (in quite some time; have had a bit since I started)
HyVee Chinese (since I started back in September; I used to eat it allll the time)
Fast food other than a McDonalds Asian grilled chicken salad (back just before Christmas I had a burger and fries from McD's when my g/f and I took her mom and kids to see Xmas lights; fast food used to be what I ate for EVERY meal)
Pizza (I've had a bit here and there, but very little)
Some other things as well, but I forget!

So I worked out yesterday like I do every Wednesday.
I hit the cross-trainer for just over 30 minutes. I then hit the stair machine for 5 minutes (I think it was 5). I then hit the weights for 30 minutes or so. At the end we did some ab exercises and stretching.


Today's workout....

I went to the 7:30am body-sculpting class. I did 5 minutes on the cross-trainer before class. In class, we do 30 minutes of cardio and weights/resistance bands all together. We then do a lot of ab exercises and stretching. I then did another 5 minutes on the cross-trainer.

Wasn't able to go work out this morning....

So I fully planned to go work out this morning. I went to bed at 9:30pm so I could be up at 5:45am. Well, that was shot to hell when I got a rude awakening at 1:30am.

My roommate and some girl he just started seeing came home from the bar and accidentally rang the doorbell a couple of times. No harm, no foul, however that wasn't the end of it:
The girl proceeded to go on and on loudly about how cold it is outside. It was immediately obvious she was drunk as a skunk. I got up and went to the restroom and on the way asked her to quiet down as I was sleeping. She then came to the bathroom door trying to get in and my roommate told her to wait that I was in there. I finished up and opened the bathroom door with her trying to touch me or something. She had her hands up and was coming in. I asked her to get off of me and then I got past her and went to bed. Maybe 30 seconds later I heard her fall in the bathroom. She apparently fell and knocked the shower doors off track and busted one of the hinges on the toilet. He then tried taking her home to Ankeny and he told her that he'd take her to her car in the afternoon after work, but she said just to take her to her car but he refused since she was so drunk.
They left and I went back to bed. About 15 or 20 minutes later they were back and she was loud again. They were watching TV nice and loud and giggling and whatnot and I started getting pissed again. I kept tossing and turning but couldn't fall back asleep as it was too loud. I got up again (now it's some time after 3 or 3:30am). I went to my computer and tried watching TV. Still loud. I decided to hell w/ it and cranked up some Mexican death metal. I blared that until she came in my office and asked me if we had some beer she could drink. I told her to go away. A few minutes later, she came in my office w/ my roommate a few feet behind her and I think she was trying to apologize drunkenly or something, but she was trying to touch me again. I told her to get off of me and leave and finally they did. I went back to bed and finally dozed off around 4:30am or so. I decided since I lost 3 hours of sleep that I needed rest more than exercise.

Ugh. I am soooo irritated!!! Someone has MAJOR issues with the bottle.

Been too busy to blog....

I've been so busy with rehearsals for High School Reunion at the Des Moines Playhouse and with work that I haven't had time to blog in the last week. Last Thursday I couldn't weigh-in either due to having a preview night of the show that night. This Thursday's numbers will be two weeks worth of loss.
I worked out M, T, W, F last week. I skipped Thursday so I could sleep in 2 more hours and be rested for the preview show that night because I had only been getting 6 or so hours of sleep lately due to rehearsals and working out.
During the show I essentially eat dinner on the stage during the graduation ceremony. I eat 1/2 my wrap, a few edamame and a V8 juice. I play the stoner, so I'm acting like I have the munchies. In past years I ate the unhealthy snacks as the character. I also eat lasagna later on in the show. I've decided to go with the vegeterian lasagna and my character's 'wife' and I will probably split a portion from now on as it's a big portion and I don't need all of that. It's pretty tasty.
I'll probably work out every weekday this week.

Today's workout....

Started out on the cross-trainer for 5 minutes or so to warm up before class.

Today at class we did something new (they've done it before, but not since I've been going). We used one of those big parachutes that you used to play with in elementary school in PE class. You put a ball in the middle and stand up and hold the parachute high then everyone yanks it downward at the same time and the ball shoots way up high (we busted a ceiling tile...whoops!). We then did some more things where you get the parachute high then 2 people dribbled basketballs around the outside or the inside. We also put a couple of balls in the middle of the parachute and just moved our arms up and down quickly to keep the balls bouncing around.
It doesn't sound like much, but my arms are sore (I did do weights after and yesterday as well).
We also did some cardio to get warmed up before we did this stuff. We ended with some ab exercises.

From there, I knocked out 10 minutes on the cross-trainer. We then hit the weights for 30 minutes or so.
I am SORE today. My body hasn't had much time to rest since I went to the gym M,T,W,TH,F this week. I've been up late since I get home late from rehearsal and have to get lunch and supper ready for the next day and had to do laundry, etc. I'll rest Saturday. Hopefully!

Last night's weigh-in results....

I weighed-in last night. There is a discrepency between the scale at Mercy's gym and the one at the weightloss clinic at Mercy where I weigh-in. I thought I checked before and they were close. According to the gym's scale, I was down to 250. According the the official sclae I weigh-in on, I'm at 254.
I lost 3 pounds this week. Still a respectable number. I hope to see an even better number next week since I kicked my workouts up to 5 days a week. Here's to hope...

My first Thursday workout....

So I decided to go to this morning's body sculpting' class at Mercy despite being up until 11:30 or a little later. By the time I got home from rehearsal last night, it was about 9:45 or 10pm. Then I had to make lunch and supper to take to work and rehearsal and do some laundry before I could head off to bed.
The class is put on by this tiny 20-something woman. She kicked our butts!
We started with a little cardio to get our heart rates going.
We use dumbbells and resistance bands. I only used the 8lb dumbbells and still got a hell of a workout. I was going to use the 10 pounders and am glad I didn't! I'm a bit embarrassed I only used 8 pounders, but if you saw the stuff we did in the class and the number of reps, you'd understand!
After the weight and resistance band exercises, we did a bunch of ab exercises and some yoga stretches.
After all of that, I knocked out 10 minutes on the cross-trainer.

A little preview to tonight's weigh-in....
I weighed myself in the locker room just to see if I'm doing better this week. It looks like tonight is going to be a big number! Unless the scales are calibrated way differently, it should be good! I've worked my butt off this week! Normally I work out 3 days a week, and after my 1 pound gain last week I decided to kick it up to 5 days. If this number tonight is as good as I think it is, I'm going to keep going 5 days a week, I think! I'm really proud of myself for kicking it up to 5 days this week, especially as busy as I already am!

Here's a brief synopsis of a week day for me this week:
Wake up at 5:45am.
At gym and working out by 7am.
Leave gym and go right to work by 9am.
Leave work at 6pm and straight to rehearsal at the Des Moines Playhouse while eating dinner in my car.
Leave the playhouse between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.
Stop at grocery store some nights.
Make lunch and supper for the next day.
Go to bed around 10:30 or 11pm.

Today's workout....

I made it to the gym this morning despite the bad weather. I had a heck of a time getting onto Douglas Ave. from my street. I drive a stick (a Scion xB, to be exact) and had to keep backing up and getting a running start at the intersection. When I left the gym and turned onto whatever street it was by Mercy, I had a helluva time getting through there!

I did 8 minutes on an ellyptical that I don't normally use that doesn't track how many miles you've gone and I don't think it tracks your speed, either. We switched up to the ellyptical (cross-trainer) that I normally use. I ended up doing about 30 minutes on it. All together I did 38 minutes of cardio today. From there we hit the weights for the rest of the time.

I'm thinking of going to the morning class tomorrow. It's apparently a 'body-sculpting' class where they work out with bars that have some weight to them. We'll see....

Went to aerobics class this morning....

So I decided to throw at least an extra day into my workout regimen. In addition to the Friday morning aerobics class that my trainer teaches, there's also a Tuesday and Thursday aerobics class that another trainer teaches.
I went to that class this morning. We did 30 minutes of good cardio. I did 5 minutes on the cross-trainer before we started to get my heart rate up to get me warmed up and ready to go. I was doing well with the class until we had to lay down on top of our step on our hands and lift our legs. I was fine with that part until we did many, many reps then I just couldn't hang with that very well.
I didn't lift this morning because I had to run an errand before work, so I showered and did that right after class. I'm debating if I'm going to lift weights after aerobics class on a regular basis or if I'm just going to do the cardio. I have enough time to do the weights, just not sure if I should rest a day between lifting or not. We'll see.
Thursday's class is actually a weight class in the gymnasium area. I think they do some stuff with just bars. We'll see.
Very glad that I went to the class this morning. The bad thing is it uses a fair amount of gas to drive there and then back to the west side of town.

Today's workout.... This last weekend....

Today's workout....

I did the cross-trainer this morning for 32 minutes or so. I knocked out about 3 miles and some 500 calories or so. From there we hit the weights for about 20-30 minutes. After that, we did some ab exercises with the exercise ball.
I think I'm going to go to the aerobics class tomorrow morning.


This last weekend....

Went to the Iowa Stars hockey game on Saturday night with my g/f and 2 of her daughters. It was a lot of fun. We each got a free hot dog, chips, and can of pop. I was going to eat before going, but didn't.
Yesterday I made guacamole and hummus for a Superbowl party. I ate that and some veggies and just drank water. Grazed on that a bit too much, though, probably.

Weigh-in results.... :-(

So I weighed-in last night. I had my first week of not losing weight. Not only did I not lose, but I gained a pound. Bummer! This week will be good, so I'm not too upset.

I had eaten dinner out 4 times this week for things that I couldn't get around. I didn't make the best choices at a couple of the meals. One specifically. I've learned from the mistakes and will use them to do better when dining out next time.

I'm also thinking of adding another day to my workout routine. Right now I go M,W,F since those are the days that my trainer works. But the people in my Friday aerobics class also go at the same time on Tuesdays and Thursdays for other classes with a different trainer, so I might go on Tuesday or Thursday. Thursday is apparently a strength training class. I might skip that since I do weights M,W,F as well as cardio and want a day between lifting to rest. I might do both days....we'll see....
